Consultant teaching and co-teaching are complex and often poorly implemented as schools struggle with maximizing the potential of these inclusive models. Districts most often have excellent teachers ready and able to implement these services, but the services are not meeting their full potential due to the lack of effective, actionalble, results based training.
Why Consultant Teaching and Co-Teaching Often Falls Short
Roles and responsibilities between teachers are unclear
Consultant teachers are underutilized
The individual strenghths of each coteacher is underutilized
Teachers have a hard time opening honest lines of communication with their teaching partner, because they don't want to strain their relationship or make their partner uncomfortable.
Collaboration time is unstructured or ineffective
Training is often theoretical...not actionable
Teachers default to “one teach, one assist”, which can be an effective model at times, but should not be relied upon as the standard every day teaching that two highly trained professionals can deliver.
Result: Frustrated teachers and limited impact for students
A Simple, Flexible, Practical System That Actually Changes Teacher Practice
Our training is built differently:
Teacher pairs complete real collaboration assignments
Each team receives targeted feedback on all assignments.
Each team is able to reach out to instructors who will answer questions throughout the duration of their course.
Focus is on implementation....not theory. The training and course assignments provide a platform for teachers to discuss topics with each other and share view points that will help put them on the same page together as they discuss how to best work together to maximize the results for teachers in the classroom.
